    We were not born to follow

     

    坐在我对面的考官不时地看着手中的秒表,偶尔也会面露微笑或是配合着点点头,但依然掩饰不住一丝不耐烦的情绪——事实上,我只是他当天所接待的第二个考生而已。

    “Ok, I think it’s over. It’s so fast, isn’t it? Because you speaks so fluently…”

    我低头看了下表,显示时间为下午两点三十四分——距我走进这间房间只过了仅仅十二分钟,雅思考试中最人性化的那部分即此宣告结束。看着考官一脸灿烂笑容,我发现自己已经忘记他的名字了。除了证实在BC上海办公室确实没遇见这样的一号人物外,我还可以确定他挺有城府的,居然可以用流利来形容我的口语还面带微笑。

    作为一门学术性质的语言考试,靠套用模板来完成雅思作文本身就是个错误的想法——但它偏偏却又是一门语言考试。

    分析一张关于1999年欧洲5国工人高等教育普及率的表格,指出数据的相同点并完成一篇150字以上的议论文。

    在当今世界,环境已经成为一个非常严肃的问题。对于普通人而言这是一件难以承受的事情,并不能对此做些什么;而对于造成其污染的政府和企业来说,解决环境问题是它们应负的责任。你是否同意这种观点?完成一篇250字以上的议论文

    倘若能用中文书写的话,我想总耗时应该可以控制在30分钟内,保证语句流畅且处处“和谐社会”外加“科学发展观”。但当今天上午用60分钟时间且以英语完成时,现在想想都会为文中那些幼稚的论点论据以及虎头蛇尾的整体结构感到羞愧不安。

    这些都是问题,当然也可以说问题并不在这里。那么问题在哪里?当今后某一天,我以这样的水平侥幸通过了考试,那后年等着我的将会是一篇10000字以上,探究中英两国文化产业发展的全英文毕业论文。以该专业大约40名学生为一个班级作为论文答辩场景开始展望,情何以堪?

    当Goldsmiths的亚太区招生办公室主任连同传媒学院的教授向我介绍了2个相关硕士专业的背景之后,得出的结论却令人啼笑皆非。原本是想缩小专业范围的,最后又被你们忽悠到文化产业这如此宏大的领域中去了——我甚至在想这门课到底是不是同胞开的,你们那面不是管这个叫作Creative Industry的么?

    倘若真是同胞开的,那我也不必继续纠结了——Pathway找到了:好好考雅思,过去之后帮你做ppt,奥运结束后回来面向有志在Culture or Creative Industry领域继续深造的广大本科阶段学子招生(华政优先),带领大家享受原汁原味的伦敦本土文化。当然,有一点要着重强调:我们可是第一个在英国招收文化产业相关硕士的学校。
